COMMON SIZES AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA - (METRIC and IMPERIAL)
Both metric and imperial sized products are available in the Australian market. In some products, both sizes are available but in other products, only the metric or only the imperial sizes are commonly available.
Where there are metric and imperial sizes that are very close it is possible that both will not always be available. It is recommended that you contact us at AASM at an early stage if an exact sized product is required.
Standard sizes vary from mill to mill, with most European mills following the metric system and mills in Asia use the imperial system.
For example, Round bar is commonly available in imperial sizes, however it may also be available in hard metric size. eg.16mm metric size could have an imperial equivalent but measure 15.88mm.
In some product areas, particularly flat product, the metric size appears and is taken to include the closest imperial measurement.
For Stainless Steel products, ASSDA (Australian Stainless Steel Development Association) provide a users Users Guide - "Stainless Steel Stock Guide, Edition 4"
The Stock Guide is a generic stock list of products reported to be regularly available in Australia ex stock.
